On July 2, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited Baku White City.
A ceremonial groundbreaking for Uzbekistan Park in Baku took place as part of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s state visit to Azerbaijan. President Ilham Aliyev and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev jointly laid a symbolic capsule in the foundation of the park, which will be shaped like the map of Uzbekistan, marking the launch of construction.
The new cultural and entertainment complex will become part of Baku White City, a prestigious and rapidly developing area of the capital, and will cover 4.5 hectares.
Uzbekistan Park is a cultural and recreational project. It will offer a unique environment reflecting the rich history, architecture and culture of Uzbekistan, including Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva and Kokand. Its facilities will include a museum, a cinema, an amphitheatre, a tower, restaurants and cafés serving Uzbek national cuisine, a retail area, souvenir and gift shops, a zoo and a hotel.
The total cost of the project is estimated at US$80 million.
Leading architectural teams from Uzbekistan have been engaged in developing the project, while its internal infrastructure systems are being designed by Australia’s Sanderson Group, known for its work on Warner Bros. Movie World on the Gold Coast. Azerbaijani architects will adapt the design to local requirements.
The project will reflect Uzbekistan’s culture, customs and traditions. The construction and design of the complex will incorporate elements and motifs of Uzbek national architecture, as well as replicas of the country’s famous architectural landmarks. A similar park, named Azerbaijan, will be built in Tashkent. These parks will serve as true reflections of the two countries and as symbols of friendship and mutual respect between their peoples.
The Baku White City project is being implemented within the framework of the “Comprehensive Action Plan for Improving the Environmental Situation in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2006–2010,” approved by an Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
