President of the Republic of North Macedonia Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova visited Baku White City during her official visit to Azerbaijan.
During the visit, the distinguished guest received detailed information about the history and distinctive features of Baku White City, including how carbon emissions can be effectively reduced in urban development while preserving cultural heritage and introducing innovative technologies. She also learned how Baku’s former industrial centre, known as Black City and once permeated by the smell of oil and soot, was transformed into White City.
It was noted that individual buildings within the project had been nominated at international exhibitions in Dubai, Cannes and Hong Kong. The project as a whole was nominated in the “Project of the Future” category at MIPIM 2011, the leading international property exhibition held annually in Cannes. It was also nominated for the prestigious WAN Awards 2010 architecture prize by World magazine in London.
After touring Baku White City, the President of North Macedonia praised the welcoming urban living environment and the project’s distinctive architecture.
The Baku White City project is being implemented within the framework of the “Comprehensive Action Plan for Improving the Environmental Situation in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2006–2010,” approved by an Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
