Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics, who is on an official visit to Azerbaijan, visited Baku White City on April 22.
Executive director of the Baku White City project, Ruslan Sadikhov, informed the President of Latvia about the works carried out and currently being carried out here.
It was reported that the area was once known as the "Black City" because it was heavily polluted with oil industry waste for more than 150 years and numerous oil ponds formed here. At the initiative of the President of Azerbaijan, this area has become a rare ecological project on a global scale, a modern residential area.
The Baku White City project is one of the brightest examples of the modern urban planning concept in the world. The implementation of the project was started on December 24, 2011 with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva. The project was developed on the basis of ecologically clean, sustainable and "smart city" principles.
