As part of an international charity road trip from Bangkok to Istanbul, Australian traveler and supporter of the Shake It Up Australia Foundation, Rick Lindsay, arrived in Azerbaijan, where his route took him through Gabala and Sheki. One of the stops on his journey was Baku White City, where filming took place focusing on his extraordinary journey and charitable mission.
Rick Lindsay is undertaking a journey of thousands of kilometers in a nearly century-old 1929 Pontiac Roadster. His route passes through Thailand, Laos, China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Georgia before concluding in Türkiye. The aim of the journey is to raise awareness of Parkinson’s disease and funds for scientific research focused on developing more effective treatments and, ultimately, finding ways to stop and cure the disease.
“We’re raising money for this research, and they’re so close to getting it. It’s literally months away,” Rick Lindsay said during the interview.
During his visit to Baku White City, filming took place featuring Rick and his legendary car. In front of the Baku Ağ Şəhər Biznes Mərkəzi 2020 building, the traveler also gave an interview to Azerbaijani television, speaking about his route, the history of the car and the charitable initiative.
Particular attention during the filming was given to the contrast between Rick’s nearly century-old car and the modern urban environment of Baku White City. The Pontiac Roadster is not simply a means of transportation, but an important part of the story behind the journey: Rick purchased the 1929 car in a severely damaged condition and restored it himself, bringing it back on the road.
Following the filming in Baku White City, the visit continued at the Heydar Aliyev Center, where Rick visited an exhibition of classic and historic cars. For the traveler, whose passion for vintage cars began in childhood, exploring the collection became a symbolic continuation of his stay in Baku.
Throughout his program in the capital, Rick continued to travel in the same 1929 Pontiac in which he is completing his international journey from Bangkok to Istanbul.
Azerbaijan became one of the key stops on the international route before he continued his journey.
