Vladimir Kukharev, Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee of the Republic of Belarus, visited Baku White City during his working visit to Azerbaijan, together with Eldar Azizov, Head of the Baku City Executive Authority.

The guests were welcomed by Ruslan Sadikhov, Executive Director of the Baku White City project. Mr Sadikhov briefed them on one of the world’s major environmentally focused urban development projects, outlining the work completed and the plans ahead.

He noted that Baku White City, implemented under the decree of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev approving the “Comprehensive Action Plan for Improving the Environmental Situation in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2006–2010,” had already gained international recognition.

Developed by leading international architectural firms in collaboration with local specialists, the project has received various awards at numerous international exhibitions as an advanced, modern and environmentally sustainable urban planning initiative.

The project’s high standing and its significance for the country call for particular attention to environmental protection. In keeping with this commitment, Baku White City Office Building 2020 has been certified under the international BREEAM environmental assessment standard, which combines a comprehensive scientific approach to responsible resource use with international best practices in assessing building energy efficiency. As green building requirements were incorporated from the early design stages, Baku White City Office Building 2020 was selected to house the COP29 headquarters.

Following his tour of Baku White City, Mr Kukharev praised the scale of the urban development project being implemented in Azerbaijan and wished it continued success in developing and refining its plans.
