Today, December 24, marks three years since the groundbreaking of Baku White City, a project becoming a new jewel of Baku.
The project, which has radically transformed the appearance of Black City, is progressing successfully. Six of Baku White City’s ten districts are currently under development, and 1.5 million cubic metres of soil have been cleaned of oil waste. Finishing works are underway in Green Island, one of Baku White City’s districts, comprising seven-storey buildings in the Parisian style. It will soon welcome its first residents.
In the Park District, covering 24 hectares, a twenty-storey residential building is under construction, offering beautiful panoramic views of Baku Bay, the boulevard and National Flag Square.
In the Waterfront District, construction continues on a 1.7-kilometre boulevard, while work is nearing completion on an 818-room hotel that will be ready to welcome guests attending the First European Games.
Baku White City Office Building has already been commissioned, with President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev attending its opening. The French Lyceum is operating within Baku White City, while a metro station, five pedestrian crossings and a road connecting Heydar Aliyev Avenue with Neftchilar Avenue are under construction.
Environmental requirements were established during the design of Baku White City and incorporated by specialists from ATKINS. Particular attention is paid to efficient water use, lighting and electricity conservation, as well as improving transport accessibility and optimising office space for tenants.
The Baku White City urban development project is being implemented under the decree issued by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev approving the “Comprehensive Action Plan for Improving the Environmental Situation in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2006–2010.”
