The State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture of Azerbaijan has honoured the most successful architectural projects of the past year. The first awards ceremony recognising outstanding architects took place in 2023, and the Təməl Awards have since been presented annually to the best architectural projects. The initiative aims to recognise architects’ creative work from a professional perspective, promote the development of architecture and thereby improve urban environments and quality of life in towns and cities.
Speakers at the event included Anar Guliyev, Chairman of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture; Elbay Gasimzade, Chairman of the Board of the Union of Architects of Azerbaijan; Ilgar Isbatov, Chairman of the Jury and Honoured Architect; and Nariman Imamaliyev, Jury Member and Honoured Architect.
The winners were then presented with the Təməl Award, while the authors of several selected projects received diplomas. Of the 93 projects completed last year and entered across six categories, 13 received awards.
The White City Business Centre project received a diploma in the “Architecture of Public Buildings” category (designers: CallisonRTKL, ADEC).
The Baku White City Pedestrian Bridge project won the Təməl Award in the “Transport, Industrial, Communications and Engineering Buildings and Structures” category (designers: UNStudio, ADEC).
The Baku White City project is being implemented within the framework of the “Comprehensive Action Plan for Improving the Environmental Situation in the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2006–2010,” approved by an Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
