Turkish MEP contractor AE Arma-Electropanc has been awarded a $42.5mn mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) contract to build the first and largest hotel at the huge Baku White City development in Azerbaijan.

The hotel will have a total of 818 rooms and a built-up area of 90,000 m2 .

The project is being built by local contractor Pasha Construction. It is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2015 ahead of the first European Games event taking place in Baku next June.

Baku White City has been masterplanned by Atkins. The 221-hectare site in the capital is being transformed into 10 mixed use districts containing 4mn m2 of new floorspace.

Around 75% of this will be residential units, creating a new community of 19,700 households as well as commercial and leisure units that will provide up to 48,000 jobs.
